For the last few years, Pantone has been choosing incredibly on-trend, wedding-friendly colors for their color of the year: a deep maroon/burgundy in 2015, a pair of blush and dusty blue hues for 2016, and, most recently, the general tone of "greenery" for 2017. This year, however, Pantone changed pace and went intergalactic with their historically influential color. Pantone's 2018 Color of the Year is a deep, majestic purple aptly named Ultra Violet.

While purple is personally my favorite color, I'd be lying if I said I didn't think it a was a challenging addition to a wedding palette. The vibrant purple is bold and unforgiving, and will certainly stand out to guests and in photos. That being said, I think it can be a bright, welcome change from the generally neutral/pastel wedding trends of the past. Check out how Pantone officially defines the color below:

Complex and contemplative, Ultra Violet suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now. The vast and limitless night sky is symbolic of what is possible and continues to inspire the desire to pursue a world beyond our own.

Phew, that's a mouthful! We're ready to embrace this year's Color of the Year - we're excited for the bright, colorful additional to a typical wedding palette. If you're planning on incorporating purple into your wedding, we suggest staying in the same color family and pairing it with other purple hues, like lavender and burgundy.

With that in mind, we scoured the web for our favorite purple-themed wedding inspiration images for you to admire while you work on your own planning. Check out our finds below, and don't forget to pin them for later! Image credits and sources are below the pin. You can also see our entire board of Ultra Violet wedding inspiration here.
